THE BRIDGE – FRIENDSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP
On 7th January, a group of about 25 people met in The Upper Room Café for lunch - this was the first meeting of The Bridge.
What is The Bridge?
The Bridge is a group of people who meet together weekly on a Friday at 1pm in the Upper Room.
It has evolved from the No Limits and Tuesday at Two groups, and we hope that more people will join us.
Why is it called The Bridge?
Our vision as a Church is to be Christ centred, so that by sharing Jesus; lives, families and communities are transformed. This group is seen very much as a bridge between the church and local community. Our vision is to draw closer in friendship and fellowship and to grow closer in understanding and love.
Who can come to The Bridge – and what happens?
The Bridge is open to anyone who would like to join us! Each week there is the opportunity to play games such as dominoes, scrabble, whist, or do a jigsaw, or if you prefer, to just sit and chat over a brew.
Once a month we have a guest speaker. This month Gill Hooper talked about health and wellbeing, and in February we will hear about the work of Open Arms International and their new partnership with Stand By Me. Over the years, several people from St Mary’s have visited and worked at the Open Arms Village in Eldoret, Kenya, which provides hope for vulnerable children and communities. As we move towards Easter, Ian Chidlow will be sharing a reflection for Lent.
We also have regular craft activities, time for singing and a monthly community lunch.
What is the Community Lunch?
On the first Friday of each month, from 12 midday, you can enjoy a set lunch menu in the Moseley Hall area of the Upper Room Café. A meal of soup, bread, cake and tea or coffee will be available for a fixed price of £3.
Again – this is open to anyone!
How can I help?
There are a number of church volunteers involved with the group, but we are always looking for more help. Perhaps you could help with serving refreshments, setting up or tidying away at the end or maybe you would like to be one of our speakers and share your favourite topic! Even if you can only help once a month, you will be very welcome!
Most importantly though, as we meet together, we would love you to join us as we seek to build a
sense of community, build stronger relationships and be intentional in sharing the good news of Jesus.
Over recent weeks we have been thinking about evangelism (described as ‘joy that bubbles over’) at the Sunday evening service. The Bridge is a place to share that joy of knowing Jesus.
· That we would be bubbling over with joy as we draw alongside others and grow in friendship and fellowship.
· That we would see lives enriched as we share the good news of Jesus.
· Whether this is an area of ministry God is calling you to serve.
· For people who come to The Bridge – some who may be feeling lonely and vulnerable, especially after the last 2 years of Covid restrictions.
· Thank God for the ministry of the Café in reaching out to the community and the opportunity to hold a monthly lunch.
