So what is Christianity Explored?

Christianity Explored is an informal course for people who would like to investigate Christianity or brush up on the basics. We explore who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him.

You won’t be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like. Or, if you prefer, you can just come along and listen.

Christianity Explored has been around for over a decade now, and it’s been designed to suit different age ranges and people.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • Q. When does the next course start?
      • Tuesday 14th April at 8.00pm (UK time)
    • Q. How can Christianity Explored run if we can’t meet?
      • The question of the moment, this being the time of lockdown. Thanks to the wonders of Zoom technology we will send you an invitation each week and we will meet virtually. To make conversation more comfortable we will assign everybody into smaller groups called breakout rooms. Each breakout room will have a leader who will encourage conversation, unless of course you would rather take more of a back seat.

    • Q. Can I come with a friend, even if we’re meeting online?
      • Yes of course. When you complete the registration form just tell us in the message that you’re coming with a friend and we will try to make sure that we put you in the same breakout room. Please make sure that your friend also registers so we can send them the Zoom invitation.

    • Q. Who is Christianity Explored for?
      • Christianity Explored is for anyone who wants to investigate Christianity, and Jesus in particular. It’s run informally with a group of people. Whether you have previous experience of Church, Christians and the Bible, or none at all, whether you’re the most sympathetic Sunday schooler or a convinced atheist, you’re very welcome. We will respect your background, culture and beliefs. Tell us as little or as much about yourself as you feel comfortable.

    • Q. What goes on?
      • Christianity Explored normally runs in groups of six to nine people, it’s video based and includes discussion on the theme of the week. It also includes some optional homework. The session starts at 8.00pm and ends at about 9pm. Of course, if you’d like, you’re welcome to stick around a bit longer for a coffee to discuss any further issues you might have. And you can ask any question you want, at any time during the course.’
      • The themes are:
      • Session 1: Good News
      • Session 2: Identity
      • Session 3: Sin
      • Session 4: The Cross
      • Session 5: Resurrection
      • Session 6: Grace
      • Session 7: Video evening
      • Session 8: Come and Die

    • Q. How long do the courses last?
      • Christianity Explored runs for 8 weeks.

    • Q. Can I pull out if I want to?
      • Of course you can.

    • Q. How much does the course cost?
      • Nothing – but some courses might ask for a small contribution towards any food provided (not while we’re running online as we can’t work out how to provide food and drinks over Zoom😉 ).

    • Q. Do I have to bring anything?
      • No, all course materials are provided.

    • Q. Is it ‘churchy’?
      • We hope not. It’s not a church service. There’s no praying, singing, or clapping, and you won’t be asked to read aloud.

    • Q. Am I going to get preached at?
      • Each evening includes a video to explain an aspect of Christian belief and stimulate discussion. Hopefully you’ll find it interesting, challenging and fun. The group leaders will facilitate discussion and try to answer questions.

    • Q. Do I have to speak in the group?
      • Not if you don’t want to. You are welcome to come and just sit and listen.

    • Q. What does the course cover?
      • Christianity Explored focuses on Mark’s Gospel, with its emphasis on who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him.

    • Q. Why is the course run?
      • As Christians we count it a real privilege to share the truth and relevance of the Christian message. We don’t have all the answers but we believe that we have exciting news to share about Jesus Christ.
